When I was younger I was always drawing comic book characters. In the sixth grade I was given oil paints and painted on and off throughout my life. After retiring from the military I used my GI Bill to get a degree in art. During the course of my bachelor’s degree I was required to take a ceramics course. I was hooked. All my effort went into learning to throw pots.
Human elements first appeared in my work as face jugs. The whimsical faces of Southern folk potters and Toby jugs from England amused me. The expressions of the face gave me a way of communicating. But sometimes more than just a face was needed. So the figure became an element in my pots.
